Comments/Additional Information

Stúdentspróf is not issued centrally as each individual school issues it's own qualifications.

The stúdentspróf is the final examination of university preparation studies at Icelandic upper secondary schools. There are two types of programmes toward stúdentspróf, acedemic programmes and vocational programmes. Each school creates it's own programmes, but the programmes have to be confirmed by the Directorate of Education. Studies toward the stúdentspróf last at least three years and contain at least 200 feiningar (upper secondary school credits). All programmes have to have at least 45 feiningar in Icelandic, English and Mathematics. Until now 137 different programmes toward stúdentspróf have been confirmed by the Directorate, 29 vocational and 108 academic.

Subjects: Minimum 45 credits in Icelandic, English and Mathematics. At least one course of a Nordic language. Academic programmes must also have 13-15 credits in third language (German, French, Spanish etc.).

Grading: On the scale from 0 to 10 with 5 as a minimum passing grade.

Awarding period: Usually in May and December.
