High school education represents the second cycle, level 3 (general secondary education) of the education system of the Republic of Moldova (according to the ISCED-2011 Standard International Standard Classification of Education). The lyceum cycle consists of six semesters, including five semesters theses, established by the Ministry of Education, staggered over 3 years of study. High school studies complete with the Baccalaureate exam, organized on the basis of art. 31 cap. V of the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova no. 152 of July 17, 2014, aiming at external evaluation of the basic knowledge and skills of high school graduates. The baccalaureate exam is organized according to the Methodology for organizing and conducting the baccalaureate exam, approved by the Ministry of Education.
The high school diploma is obtained by supporting national tests on subjects by graduates of high school education level (4 years in primary education, 5 years in gymnasium education and 3 years in high school education, as a whole 12 grades).
Grading system: the assessment of the learning outputs is performed with the marks from “10” to “1” and, if appropriate, with the qualificatives “excellent”, “very good”, “good”, “satisfactory”, “unsatisfactory”, “admitted”, “rejected”. In parallel with the National Grading System in the higher education is applied the scale with the recommended grade by the European System of Transfer Credits (A, B, C, D, E, FX, F). The validation with the national grading scale is made as it follows: A: 9,01 – 10,0;B: 8,01 – 9,0;C: 7,01 – 8,0;D: 6,01 – 7,0; E: 5,0 – 6,0; FX: 3,01 – 4,99; F: 1,0 – 3,0.
